WebNet Media Group was founded in the Spring of 2000 by Angel Ellis. As a recent graduate of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, Angel began taking various projects while she worked full-time for IBM. Working for a leading technology company allowed Angel an advantageous perspective of the emerging internet industry, which was further solidified later that year when she launched the website for the Charlotte chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants. The chapter saw a 200% increase in membership after the website was implemented, which was largely attributed to Angel's efforts.
In 2004, Angel established WebNet's headquarters in Columbia and incorporated the company. Operating in Columbia eventually lead the University of South Carolina Technology Incubator to take notice, and WebNet was invited to become apart of the effort in 2005. The Technology Incubator is recognized as a hub for innovative technologies and promising entrepreneurs, and WebNet continues to be a member of the program.
With a Columbia location and membership in Technology Incubator, WebNet began to gain more projects, including work for SC State University, Steve Benjamin, Allen University, and various other Columbia businesses and organizations. By 2007, WebNet consisted of four employees and launched one of it's most prestigious projects for the most presitgious projects for the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Recently, in January 2010, WebNet Media was acquired by NeoGenisys Capital. This acquisition has allowed WebNet to hold true to its mission: to provide a convenient, high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective way for organizations to utilize the full potential of the World Wide Web.
